These stretches give you power over your own
pain
"As coauthors, (Richard Rossiter and Sue MacDonald)
we hope this book will change your life in very simple and profound ways.
Are you tired of hurting or coping with nagging pain? Are you disappointed
with what traditional medicine has offered for your aches and pains? Here's
a concrete and ground-breaking way to get rid of your pain in the comfort
of your own home with a friend, family member, child, spouse or coworker
as your stretching partner.
A little history from Richard. I flew helicopters
for nine years in Alaska, and the contortions of sitting in a pilot's seat
for hours on end led to pain so severe that I couldn't lift my arms above
my shoulders. A form of deep, connective-tissue stretching is what finally
gave me relief. I wasn't interested in painkillers, muscle relaxants, splints
and certainly not surgery for what was a problem of repetitive use, tight
and restrictive connective tissues, and achy muscles. Maybe you hurt, too,
because of carpal tunnel syndrome, mouse arm, elbow pain, numb hands, arms
that fall asleep at night, shoulders that ache all the time, headaches
and low back pain. Trust me: these stretches will help you get rid of all
that numbness, tingling, aching, buzzing, zinging and pain because they
put YOU in charge of keeping your body stretched, supple and healthy. For
the last 10 years, I've contracted with factories all over the U.S., teaching
workers how to stretch at work to relieve their own pain. They visit the
doctor less, they cut down the amount of drugs they take, they avoid surgery,
and they cost their employers less in workers' comp claims, off time, light
duty and medical leave. But you know the best part? They are taking control
of their own health, and they're helping each other out of pain. That's
a very powerful concept. So go grab a clean pair of socks, a blanket or
mat, and hold onto a chair. You're ready to do the Rossiter System stretches!
A little history from Sue: As a newspaper journalist,
I never considered myself a victim of this I figured they were the kinds
of injuries suffered by factory workers or checkout clerks. But my body
has suffered the effects of repetitive stress over the last 20 years, and
most probably, so has yours. Things we never associate with "repetitive
motion" can cause pain, from the way we stand, drive, work out, exercise,
create art, lift, play music, participate in sports or tinker with hobbies
or crafts. I type for hours at a time. For years, I cradled a phone receiver
in the crook of my neck until my shoulder started aching all the time.
My knees ached occasionally from softball and volleyball. Shortly after
I turned 40, I was convinced I was developing arthritis in my knees. But
once I learned about the Rossiter stretches and went through my first workout,
I couldn't believe the positive, quick change -- and remember, I'm paid
to be a skeptic. Now when my shoulder hurts, I can get rid of the pain
in 20 minutes by stretching with my teeen-age daughter or son....Read
